ABOUT SINUN
SINUN (SEE-NOON) is the Finnish word for "yours", a quiet acknowledgement of the relationship between the piece and the person who wears it, reflecting a focus on garments meant to be lived in and used.
SINUN began primarily as a custom clothing practice and has since grown into a collection of small-batch, ready-to-order garments and accessories. It is a collection of contemporary pieces shaped by process and material. Each item is guided by an interest in how things are made—wherein design emerges through making, and form follows intuition as much as function.
Designed and produced in small batches on Vancouver Island (Quw’utsun Territory, Canada), SINUN reflects a commitment to thoughtful production and lasting wear. The collection draws inspiration from natural forms and rhythms, valuing quiet beauty over excess and craftsmanship over speed.
Every piece is cut, sewn, and finished by hand, embodying the belief that clothing can be both refined and deeply human—a reflection of care, curiosity, and restraint.
ABOUT JULIA
Julia Petley-Jones is the designer and maker behind SINUN.
With a BA in Fashion Design from Kwantlen Polytechnic University and an MA in Fashion from Aalto University, Helsinki, Julia developed her craft within Finland’s design culture - a scene that deeply shaped her appreciation for material, function, and simplicity.
Her practice sits at the intersection of craft and concept, drawing from traditional garment-making while embracing experimental, process-led exploration. Julia’s work is guided by an interest in natural processes, material integrity, and the dialogue between the maker and the made.
Now based in the Cowichan Valley, Julia creates every SINUN piece by hand, building a small, evolving collection that reflects her belief in moderation and enduring design.
